Denver, the capitol city of Colorado, is one of the largest cities between Chicago and Las Vegas. Located a mile above sea level, it owes its economic base to a variety of industries such as technology, oil and gas and the green industry among others. This variety keeps the economy from being too vulnerable to any one industry's health. This economy has brought about a vibrant, varied and thriving tourism industry. So whether you are a Denver native, just moved here two months ago, or are a semi native, there are several things to occupy your time in Denver.

1) Water World

This attraction is obviously enjoyed during the summer time. Located in North Denver, this attraction sits on 67 acres and has over 40 different attractions. It is easy enough to spend an entire day at this theme park. With free parking and plenty of space for picnics, this is an easy family escape of great for a group of friends to have some wet fun.

2) Lannie's Clocktower Caberet

This venue is located in the heart of downtown Denver on the 16th street mall. Live entertainment ranging from music performances to small plays are a mainstay in this visually unique and quaint Denver theater. The caberet has a good selection of food and drink to consume during the performances.


3) Balistreri Vineyards

This local winery is located only 10 minutes from downtown Denver and is open 10 days a week. Be sure to check out the tasting room to sample the local Colorado wines. This family run vineyard offers many types of wines including Muscat, Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot.

4) Black American West Museum.

The museum was founded in 1971 and focuses on uncovering this hidden, yet huge part of the Old West. In the Old West, 1 in 3 cowboys was African American, a fact not covered on most history books. This museum contains many artifacts from western homesteads, and exciting histories of many of the African American community leaders of the West, as well as many Denver natives.

5) Mile High Marketplace

This one of a kind venue is a huge flea market with additional shops, farmers market, antique market and entertainment center. This is the largest outdoor shopping place that is open year round, and there are deals to be had. This venue is open every weekend from Friday to Sunday and is located just Northeast of Denver.


6) Denver Pavilions

The Denver Pavilions is located in Downtown Denver right on the 16th street mall. This venue is home to many different unique boutique shops, restaurants and entertainment venues such as night clubs and a Denver movie theater.

There are many unique and a variety of interesting things to do in Denver that don't break the bank. Most of the things you can do that were mentioned in this article are low cost to free in their entry fee. Denver has a plethora of activities available that are easy to get to for an affordable price. If you are a local, a tourist, or just happen to be passing through, there is always something available for every taste.
